One month with the M1 Macbook Pro

It has been more than a month of me using the new M1 Macbook Pro. At first, I was hesitant whether to purchase it or rather the one with the Intel chipset. After countless of reading reviews and watching YouTube videos about it, I have decided to just go ahead with the purchase.

I am a programmer by profession and I dabble with photography during my free time, therefore it is important that there will be no problems using the Macbook with some of the common applications. Some of the applications that I use are Visual Studio Code, Sequel Pro, MySQL Workbench, Filezilla, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

I have read about the butterfly key issues with the previous Macbook models and it seems to have been fixed with this model. Personally, I never had that problem with my old Macbook so I can’t really tell the difference.

The battery life is simply superb. One full charge is able to last me the entire day. This makes it so much easier as I don’t need to lug around the power adapter wherever I go or do I need to always hunt for a power plug at Starbucks.

I hardly use the touchbar feature, maybe only to adjust the volume when my Spotify playlist is playing. The touch ID feature makes it convenient for any authorisation process.

As a Programmer

Setting up the programming environment wasn’t as difficult as I expected it to be. There were some compatibility issues however the solutions were easily found on the Internet. Thanks Google! The improvement in response time is definitely noticeable.

As a Photographer

It is a breeze opening applications like Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. I have even had a taste in video editing on Adobe Premiere Pro and it is definitely smooth sailing. However I do wish that the laptop has a card reader. It is almost a must to buy a hub to complete the setup.

In conclusion, I don’t have regrets purchasing the M1 Macbook Pro as it has increased my productivity level.

UPDATE 13 April 2021
The Macbook M1 has been crashing a few times for the past week after sleeping for a few hours. It starts by quitting the apps that I access and eventually restarts my entire laptop.

UPDATE 26 April 2021
I have send the laptop to Apple’s authorised service provider for an inspection.

UPDATE 13 May 2021
I have finally gotten my laptop back and it turns out that they had to replace my motherboard and the touchpad. Hopefully this won’t happen again.

    Good morning Renée,
do you work with an external monitor? Or just the Macbook M1 display?
I’m also thinking about bying one or Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 (15 inch).
Thank you for a feedback and kind regards!!

Hi Marc, sorry for the late reply. I didn’t expect anyone to be reading my blog. LOL. I was just using the Macbook M1 display. Not hook up to any monitors. Thankfully, it’s still working great right now.
