A’Famosa was constructed between 1511 and 1512 under the command of the Portuguese conquistador, Afonso de Albuquerque, after the successful capture of Malacca from the Malaccan Sultanate. The fortress was strategically positioned near the shoreline, enabling the Portuguese to monitor maritime activities and defend against potential attacks.
